London is full of Blue Plaques. Some are interesting, but most seem to be about some old white dude. I mean no disrespect and I'm sure their achievements were great and significant. However, I feel that there are chapters of history that are missing from public discourse.
So I thought, ‘what's the point sitting here and moaning about it, what would Henry Rollins do? What would Joe strummer do?’ Probably create an angry punk rock song about it and take matters into their own hands. Well music is not my strong suit. So I had to come up with another plan.
Introducing the Tread Out of Time Postcards - alternative blue plaques. I will be scattering homemade postcards around London. They will describe the hidden and overlooked history of London’s buildings and people; focusing on alternative, music and social history.
These postcards have been made using a lino print of an hourglass and will have the history of a location written on the back. They will be tied to lamp posts outside significant locations.
My aim is to bring a bit of extra art to the streets and share the stories of these locations that are often overlooked.
So keep your eyes peeled. If you see one of these postcards please have a read and share the stories you learn.
